Solution for 5.127 Ryan Franz You need to indicate a coordinate system. Below is a good default coordinate system. A free body diagram of the three-force member is necessary. First, the bar connecting the upper support to point B is a two force member so the reactions at the pin support and at B only have components parallel to the axis of the bar. The bar has a tension force in the x direction and nothing in the y direction. The three-force member has three forces on it, each acting through a point. This means that the unknown reaction at A only has ONE direction, and that direction is unknown.
