Nathan Chudzinski 20 April 2009 The death penalty is one of the most controversial topics in the U.S when it comes to handling the criminals. Opponents argue that the death penalty is falls under the category of “cruel and unusual punishment” in violation of the eight amendments. They also argue that the death penalty is applied unequally. A large portion of the criminals executed have been poor, uneducated, and nonwhite. They also did not have the best lawyers in the world. Now that Congress passed the Innocence Protection Act the criminals are provided grants to try prove that they are innocent. Also the thought of taking a life is just wrong. Someone once said that “and eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” which basically means that if a criminal murders someone, it would mean that if he is sentenced to the death penalty then we would be doing the same thing to him. When someone is executed not just the person is punished, all the people that knew and loved the executed person also suffer too. On the other hand, the death penalty should be used to punish someone for their
