2 Huygens’ principle: every point on a wave front acts as a point source; the wave front as it develops is tangent to all the wavelets. 34-1 Waves versus Particles; Huygens’ Principle and Diffraction Huygens’ principle is consistent with diffraction: Scattering and Interference Huygens’s principle – each point on a wavefront serves as a source for spherical secondary wavelets, which combine at a later instant to form a new wavefront from the envelop of those wavelets that expand at the speed of light in the material.
