CheckPoint: Dorfman Pacific Rolls Out a New Wireless Warehouse Answer the following questions in 200- to 300-words: Assume you are a Dorfman Pacific consultant. Apply the problem-solving process and present your answers to each step of the process. Your problem at Dorfman Pacific is paper- based order-picking process which is stressful and not efficient enough to do business with big-box stores such as JC Penny and Wal-Mart. “These larger retail stores have a much greater appetite for thousands of different items and box types” (Laudon and Laudon, 2009). Your company is trying to serve retailers such as Wal-Mart and JC Penny with the paper-based order-picking process in a large warehouse which is costing Dorfman Pacific $250,000 every year in wages; because to keep up with the demand you’ve had to hire extra workers and pay hefty overtime wages to satisfy the demand during seasonal peaks. An alternative solution to fixing this problem would be to replace the paper-based order-picking process with wireless technology. The wireless technology will reduce labor cost and create the most efficient way for a streamlined warehouse staff to pick products with the smallest error rate (Laudon and Laudon, 2009).
