Unformatted text preview: Financial sector indicators in 2007 2 Trends in banking sector In spite of the influence of American crisis on the global financial market in the second half of 2007, positive dynamics of banking sector development was kept during 2007, and some negative banking figures fluctuations were evidenced. Aggregate bank assets ɨ n the 1 st of January 2008 reached 11. 68 trln. tenge, providing annual growth of 31.7%. This gives aggregate assets to GDP relation of 87.7%. Banks¡ capital increased by 52.4% up to 1.78 trln. tenge. At same time, capital adequacy exceed the requirement by 2.2 percentage points and reached 14.2%. Within claims to non-resident, loans form the largest share ¡ 51.2% or 1 413.7 bln.tenge and equal to 15,9% of banks credit portfolio. In order to minimize cross-border crediting risks in banking sector, in February 2007 the risk weight for assets distributed to bank¢s non-resident subsidiaries with credit rating less than BB- (Standard&Poor¢s or the equivalent rate of any credit rating agency) or without a rating was raised from 100% to 150%. In order to lower the risks, assets in countries with liberal tax regimes will be weighted at 200% (to be implemented as of 1 April 2008). 5 Banks¡ loan portfolio Loan portfolio of banks as of 01.01.2008 according to preliminary estimates is 8 868 bln. tenge.
