Meredith Thomas The Cabin Growing up in a small town is hard to find things to do and spend summer vacations. I was lucky enough to have a place to go when I lived in Cheraw to solve this problem. About 2 miles down a dirt road behind our neighborhood was acres of land with a cabin on a lake. The cabin gave me a place to go with friends and allowed me to develop my love for the outdoors. As a kid growing up in Cheraw I spent every minute I could out at the cabin. We swam and rode 4-wheelers, jet-skis, and golf carts. We went fishing, had skeet shoots, and celebrated birthdays. There was always something to do out there and I never wanted to go home. My friends and I loved to camp out and have sleepovers. Most nights our sleepovers included roasting marshmallows and playing games and then going inside to a warm bed. Sometimes we would just go sit out on the dock and talk about anything for hours. When I look back I do not know what I would have done if we did not have to cabin to go to. Now that we are older the cabin still gives us what it gave us as kids. It is a place to just
