3. MATLAB in Practice The first user story I read about takes place at our very own campus, I felt that it was completely relevant considering it was about the first year engineering program, and we are all in the class it pertains to right now. In this story, the use of MATLAB is to help develop our “logical problem solving practices for fundamental engineering problems”. Basically the use of MATLAB is to teach students a better way to graph and represent data using simple programming. It also teaches the students to solve engineering problems with a mathematical model. As compared to other programming options, like C and FORTRAN, MATLAB provided the students all the required skills to be able to use simple programs to solve math problems and prepared them for their futures in engineering with out the extra start up time and additional programming steps needed to be learned to complete a problem on the other programs. MATLAB helps the students’ focus on problem solving and not the coding, which was required by C or FORTRAN. The reason I found this story interesting was because it is essentially our story.
