Strozzi Altarpiece by Andrea Orcagna does not have any sense of depth into it. It
contains so much detail representing the royal atmosphere. All the characters look flat and stuck
to the wall behind them. All the faces look the same and emotions are not really a huge fact to
draw attention. The colors used are repetitive and they make the viewer’s eyes tired. It is mostly
gold and simple, and non special colors. This prevents the whole piece from being attractive. But
again, the amount of details used in this work and all the tiny designs on the background grab the
eyes and make the viewer wonder and pay more attention. But the piece by Van der Weyden’s
altarpiece “Deposition from the Cross” has many different elements than the Strozzi Altarpiece.
