Germany had been hemmed in, punished, and impoverished, Austria reduced and isolated, Hungary and Bulgaria chopped down and humiliated, and Russia not even considered. US rejected League isolationism France/England lacked will the build/ensure peace. Germany refused to accept humbled, second-class existence Russias new Bolshevik leaders wanted to build a great nation & expand ideology I taly looking to recreate Roman Empire Japan wanted to dominate vast reaches of Pacific insurgent/industrialized Germany German army general staff not destroyed, changed its name and continued to function made secret agreements w/ soviets. Military airplanes, tanks, and shells were mde for them in Russia and Germans train on Soviet Soil in exchange for building them factories and train Soviet officers in armor and airborne tactics. Treaty of Rapallo 1922 Depression opened doors to despair rise of fanaticism. 1933 Hitler fire became chancellor, then dictator Germany violates Treaty of Versailles, no one does anything.
