I attest that this is my own work, except for the material that I have clearly indicated is from another source. Signed: Cristina Ponte Philosophy 001 9/27/10 Descartes Meditation I Paraphrasing assignment Voices of Wisdom , p. 320 “…I’ve been aware that I accepted many falsehoods as true in my youth, that what I built on the foundation of those falsehoods was dubious, and accordingly…I would need to tear everything down and begin anew from the foundations if I wanted to establish any stable and lasting knowledge.” Paraphrase : Here Descartes is stating that he knows that everything can be doubted, therefore all of his beliefs have been based on doubts. He has built on these doubts through out his many years of life. In order to build beliefs with no doubt at all and that are 100% true he would only be able to do that by completely starting over to allow for no doubt to be questioned. One Sentence: All beliefs and conceptions are built on assumptions and this is only false if they are reevaluated from the roots up.
