540:303 Manufacturing Processes Course Description : This course is an introduction to major manufacturing processes such as metal forming , traditional/non- traditional material removal processes , polymer processing , additive processes , and aims to provide the students with the knowledge of basic theory/principles , methods , machine tools and technologies used in the manufacturing industry. Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Student is responsible for getting the lecture notes and other course information from the course Prof. T. Özel Manufacturing Processes Blackboard web site. Do not ask instructor to receive any material, rather just go to the website and download the documents. Textbook: Manufacturing Processes for Engineering Materials , Serope Kalpakjian, 5th Ed, Addison Wesley, 2008 or the latest version (Available at Rutgers Bookstore) You must have the textbook!

540:303 Manufacturing Processes Assignments: The schedule contains reading assignments from the text book for each week. You are expected to read and be prepared to discuss the assigned material . The homework assignments will be from the textbook. Homeworks will be turned in at the beginning of the class—no exceptions. No late homeworks will be accepted. Any late homework received will not be graded. Examinations: One midterm and one final examination will be given as shown in the schedule. Midterm and final examinations are partially open and partially closed book/notes. Quizzes: All quizzes are closed book/notes and may be given without notification. Prof. T. Özel Manufacturing Processes No make-up quiz will be given! Course Project: A term project is required as explained in course project information handout. Grading: Midterm: 25% Quizzes: 20% Homework: 10% Project: 20% Final Exam: 25% Failure to take quizzes, midterm and final examinations will result in automatic failure ( F ) of the course.
