As educators, we often feel called to improve the lives of the students with whom we work. Howdoes this impact your teaching philosophy and practice? How do you identify and address students' diverse backgrounds in your teaching practice?The Impact of diverse cultures and my teaching practiceOne of the most important struggles I have had was adapting my teaching philosophy to align with the social norms and local culture in place. I have had the privilege to work with manystudents from various backgrounds across the world. One of the things that stood out the most was the culture shock from student to student and country to country. For example, in Cambodia,it is a widely accepted norm for parents to hit the children as a form of punishment, in context I do not mean a spank on the bottom for misbehaving, but blatant assault by hitting them with closed fists or other items across the face or body.
