Reasonably stable patterns of behavior, thoughts, and feelings that characterize a person’s life. - Personality is a construct - We have invented or constructed the concept of personality, it may or may not be real. - Self-esteem is also something that is construct. - Sigmund Freud - Jewish - Born in Czech Republic - Wasn’t hired because he was Jewish and went into a private practice. - Became an internationally renowned person and got cancer in the jaw because he was a huge smoker. They kept removing infected part of his jawbone so his face got really dis±gured. - Nazi’s invade Austria and they were aware of Freud and knew that he was Jewish. They harassed him by burning his books. - Got ahold of one of his daughters and since he was internationally renowned and he had friends who were politically connected and wealthy and they offered the individual money and let go of the daughter. - At that point the English and Austrian government flew Freud and immediate family out of Austria and into London. - Between World War II and the situation with his daughter, plus the pain he was in he asked to get an overdose of morphine in the home he lived in in London. - Three Broad Approaches
