THE FIRST VOYAGE AROUND THE WORLD BY MAGELLANThe book entitled "The First Voyage Around theWorld by Magellan"was based on the manuscript,dating from around 1525, held by the Italian chroniclernamed Antonio Pigafettawho accompanied FerdinandMagellan on the expedition. Pigafetta wrote fourmanuscripts: three of it were written in French and theother one was in his Italian dialect of Veneto mixed withsome Spanish words. Since Magellan died in the Battle ofMactan in the Philippines, Pigafetta was one of theeyewitness and survivor who returned to their homelandand wrote "Relazione del Primo Vaggio Iltorno al Mondo"(Report on the First Voyage Around the World). The bookwas originally published in the year 1550 and in this initialversion, some of the first-hand accounts of documentscomprise with maps, discoveries and even newgeographical names were included. “The First Voyage Around the World by Magellan” was all about the detailedrecord of the First Circumnavigation happened in history. The goal of this expeditionwas to traverse around the globe and to find the Spice Islands to trade some resources.The said movement was led by the Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan,considered to be the first European to cross the Pacific Ocean. It was under themonarch of King Charles I when the first voyage started. In his travel, severaldiscoveries were made including the early life of the Filipinos (cultures and civilizations).Lapu-Lapu was identified as the chieftain of the natives in Mactan where the battleexisted. These discoveries have great impact in the Philippine History and issues werelately found regarding to the falsely accusation of Magellan's deathThe first circumnavigation was completed under the leadership of FerdinandMagellan. He and his 240 multi-ethnic sailors which include Germans, Flemings,French, Greeks, Indians, British, Italians, Moors, Africans, Portuguese, Brazilian,Indonesians, and Castellanos were accomplished the task of roaming around the worldalthough only few men made it through the end. Their great leader has dual citizenship;he was originally a Portuguese and also, he became a Spanish, since King Charles I(Spanish monarch) agreed to his mission to travel in order to find the Spice Islands(which is known now as Indonesia).Before the first voyage happened,Magellan (Portuguese name: Fernao deMagalhães)already experienced differentbattles since he was under the royal court forthe queen of Portugal. His father was knownoften to travel to the town of Oporto where theplace was always crowded with ships andseafarers who went to adventures, that time
he found his passion of seafaring and exploration. Despite of being a seafarer, he was aformer soldier in the Portuguese Navy. The first task that was given by the Portugal KingManuel I to him was to break the Muslim sea power in India and Africa in the year 1505.
