LITMIN A (BSN) June 24, 2020 Literary Analysis of Parang Sabil The “ Parang Sabil of Abdulla and Putla Isara During the Spanish Times ” written by Indah Annura is a Tausug folktale that revolves around the lives of one of the Muslim communities in Mindanao, the Tausugs, in the hands of the Spanish colonizers as depicted by two lovers named Abdulla and Putli Isara. The story began as these two lovers were already engaged. Abdulla decided to set sail to Sandakan to search for things needed for their wedding, particularly jewelries. Upon his return, he promised to wed Isara. He decided to leave his fiancé behind to her father, as he was confident that she will be safe in the hands of her father. Isara, on the other hand, wanted to visit the river. Although with dismay from her father, she pleaded that she will be allowed. She further added that her younger brother will accompany her. With persistence, Isara still went to the river. She went on to take a bath in the river while, her brother was on a look-out. Deep in her heart, she felt guilty for disobeying her father. Suddenly, her younger brother shouted, “Oh, sister, Spanish soldiers are here; So frightful to look at.” Putli Isara shouted back and said, “What are we afraid of? Our father is a panglima”. As the countless number of Spanish soldiers arrived, their fear increased as they set gazed on Putli Isara. The
