PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2 Professional Development Plan Being a human services professional no matter which career area that you choose, you must be up to date with the current resources and developing the skills within your specialized profession. By keeping up with the current skills and education, as well as setting the goals within the job is very important to the clients we serve. It is also important to keeping up with innovative ideas and changes that are in the human services field. In this area of the human services profession, there is various populations that are served and every opportunity available should be taken to further advance and to enhance our careers to better assist others who are in need. Even the human services code of ethics states “that human service workers must stay current in their chosen occupation”. Every professional should have goals that will enable them to grow and by gaining new skills that will aid them in performing their duties to the highest proficiencies. Development Goals For a human services professional to grow in their career, goals need to be set so they can cultivate the developmental goals. With aiding and progressing in their careers, there are many strategies that a worker can use. Every worker should have the goals that they are working on so they can enhance their careers and even to enhancing themselves. For example, some goals that could be listed are the following: better communication skills and having a clearer understanding of the cultural differences within the community. “Standard 36 in the Human Services Code of Ethics states “Human services professionals hold a commitment to lifelong learning and continually advance their knowledge and skills to serve clients more effectively” (National Organization for Human Service, 2015).
