Student Name: Emily McBride Date: March 23, 2020 Title of pathophysiology: Basal Cell Carcinoma Definition DNA damage from exposure to UV rays from the sun or indoor tanning triggers changes in basal cells in the epidermis, resulting in uncontrolled growth. This is the most common diagnosed skin cancer. Causes There are several causes for this type of cancer. Being over the age of 50, having fair skin, males, chronic skin conditions, and a history of skin cancer. The most prominent reason is the over exposure to the suns rays or from indoor tanning. S/S As a skin cancer it is more noticeable physically than it is symptomatic. These cells form as small pearly bumps that can be pink, brown or black and they never go away. They can form lesions and can ooze too. Most of these ‘moles’ are dome shaped and are very fragile. Flat, scaly, reddish patches can appear on the patients back and chest, they can also have white, waxy, scar-like lesions with a defined border.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
