Cummings Dr. Aderibigbe Intro to Religion 1003 June 16, 2018 Module 1 Summary This unit and chapter two of Dr. Aderibigbe’s book examine the question of the origin and development of religion and highlight the responses that are usually provided in an attempt to answer these questions. The three responses are typically in relation to how religion began, the earliest form in which religion began, and the reasons for the religiousness of man. Throughout this module we examined the different theories and studies that attempt to explain the why, how, and when of the development of religion. There are two forms of religion that have been identified when trying to determine which came first, which are polytheistic and monotheistic forms. There are three different schools of thought on the debate as to which came first which are: the evolution school of thought, the devolution school of thought, and the revolution school of thought.
