According to the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, a recent study shows that children given antibiotics for routine respiratory infections are more susceptible to aggressive antibiotic-resistant strains of the bacterial clostridium difficile, commonly known as C- diff. This bacterium, found in the human gut, can cause severe diarrhea and is responsible for 250,000 infections in hospitalized patients and 14,000 deaths every year among children and adults. These children didn't require antibiotics for their upper respiratory infections in any case. They ought to have been given an alternate treatment. I think that to identify where interventions to improve prescribing are most needed, and to measure progress. A lot of times, doctors prescribing them which is unnecessary and inappropriate making it an easy solution. Even though the CDC is already trying to regulate them on a national level, there should be an added measure in place. Particularly,
