Mechanical Power Transmission: • Power is transmitted by mechanical power trans. elements • Power trans. is done by means of either friction or positive contact between surfaces of contacting mechanical elements 2. Electrical Power Transmission: • Electrical power which is generated using mechanical means is transmitted using wires and brought close to the working machine which is an electric motor. • Electric motor, then converts the electric power to mechanical power again 8 İ stanbul Technical University 3. Hydraulic Power Transmission: • Mechanical power is used to rotate a hydraulic pump to obtain compressed oil • Compressed oil is sent to the working machine through hoses or pipes • Compressed oil is the used to rotate an hydraulic motor, or activate an hydraulic cylinder, and at the end of the mechanical power is obtained again • e.g. Hydraulic presses

Pneumatic Power Transmission: • Similar to principle of hydraulic power transmission, but instead of compressed oil, compressed air is used • e.g. Pneumatic drills, which use compressed air to rotate a turbine inside the drilling machine • e.g. Impact tools and drilling tools used in road construction and mining 10 İ stanbul Technical University FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED WHEN CHOOSING THE TYPE OF MEDIA What is the starting torque? How much space is available? Are the conditions constant or variable? What is the typical duty cycle? What power level is required?
