SC121 Unit 4 Assignment PART 1 1. Why are cells important to the body Cells are important because they are the basic building blocks of all living things. They provide structural support, convert nutrients into energy, get rid of waste and so much more. 2. Which organelle do you think would kill you the fastest if you lost it? Explain your answer. Since the nucleus is considered an organelle, I would have to say losing it would kill living things the fastest. The nucleus contains the DNA which holds the genetic information that is vital to cellular structure and function. 3. How is cell shape related to function? Give at least 3 examples and explain. RBC or Red Blood Cell is shaped to be able to move through tightly spaced capillaries so that they can distribute oxygen throughout the body. Nerve cells are elongated so that they may transmit signals through distant spaces. Sperm cells have a tail like structure called a flagellum to be able to travel. This is the only cell required to move considerable distances.
