For the essay/paragraph(s) required for the Mid-Term, each example of how the life experience or cultural background of the artist influences a specific artwork or its making, will get 20 points. To obtain these 20 points for one COMPLETED example, the student needs to draw evidence from the artwork itself and relates the evidence s/he draws from the artwork to the cultural background or the life stories of the artist. There should be a clear and strong co- relation between the life experience and cultural background of the artist and the evidence drawn from the artwork. That means, for example, you can say that Frida suffered much from her bus accident and her muddy relationship with Rivera; then you should refer to the brokenness implied in her paintings, rather than the icons and images she borrowed from Mexican folk art and indigenous culture. Further, when you remark that Frida’s work tells this brokenness of her life, you should refer to such aspects in her paintings as the dry cracked land
