Output per acre (land productivity): no increase o Corn- slight decrease in land productivity between 1870-1910 o Wheat- slight increase between 1870-1910 Increase acreage due to increase use of capital (reapers steel plow- which was better suited for dense clay in the Mid-West states-, threshers) o Increase labor productivity(output per worker)-*the individual can do more w/ better capital o Between 1850-1900: a 2.6% average annual increase in labor productivity in agriculture o Note: increase in output also due to biological innovation- *happened after 1920’s New plant varieties and hybrids Methods of combating insects and plant disease b.)
