ENGINEERING 2 Engineering: Quality Assignment Chapter 1 Question 5: In your own word, describe the difference between productivity and quality Quality is based on customer actual experience towards a product or service, which means that the producer or designer of the product or service has to be effective. On the other hand, to be productive, one has to be efficient which means he or she has to utilize the resources available to him or her in the best way possible. Question 11: Describe the differences between the action necessary in inspection, quality control, statistical quality control, statistical process control and total quality management. Inspection involves testing, examining, and measuring one or more attributes if a product or service. These actions detects nonconformance in a completed products. Quality control on the other hand goes beyond the inspection. It involves using specifications and inspections of the completed parts or other assemblies with the aim of improving the quality of the product or a service. Statistics quality control involves using data to monitor and control variation in products to be produced. Statistical process control is about becoming proactive when dealing with defects or other issues. It involves using statistical methods to control the quality control process. It allow a company to create a product or service that will meet customer expectation of quality while reducing the variability between products. It also help minimize production costs through elimination of reworking and scrapping. Lastly, total quality management places its emphasis on the system improvement to improve customer expectation of quality. This also mean using employees and all members of the organization to improve the processes and products or services that the company provides.
