Dustin Lee Mitosis Lab Biology Block C Introduction: In class, we were paired up to view an onion root tip through a microscope to gain an understanding of the amount of time each stage of mitosis lasts. First we had to identify how many cells in the tip of the onion were going through each stage of mitosis. Then we had to calculate how much time each stage lasted. The time could be found by the number of cells in a specific phase over the total number of cells counted multiplied by 720 minutes (which was the overall time it took for the cells to go through mitosis completely). After that, we compared those times to normal chicken stomach cells and cancerous chicken stomach cells.
