Soc 100-025 Spring 2011 Assignment 5: Summary of an Academic Article In this assignment you will get a taste of how sociologists review relevant literature for a research topic. In most cases, once a research topic is decided on, relevant articles and books are gathered, and then an annotated bibliography is created. In essence, that is what you will be doing in this assignment, only for one article. This will not be an essay similar to previous assignments. The purpose of this assignment is to help you take an academic article with relatively complex ideas and concepts, and extract the big picture and the main points from the reading. The article to be reviewed/summarized is Doing Gender found in Chapter 22 of your textbook. Paper Guidelines This summary should: 1) Review the central assumptions, thesis/es, arguments, evidence, and conclusions of the readings.
