John Tyler didnt like Henry Clay, who was the Speaker of the House of Represenative. John Tyler Was scared of Jackson and Jackson Tactics and Tyler didnt approve of them. When Jackson became President he started to warm up to him alittle bit and respect him more when Jackson vetoed the bill for the 2nd National Bank of the United States. But when Jackson signed the Tarriff of Abominations as called by the Southern States he went totally against it, South Carolina Actually rebelled and started fbuilding an army of militia to rebel against the North and Jackson. When Tyler saw this he knew he had to do something and he went to Henry Clay the man he hated and disagreed with most of the bills and laws Clay tried to pass because he knew that Clay might be the only man who could stop a full out South Carolina vs North Rebellion. Jackson enforced the force tarriff Clay, Tyler, and Daniel Webster broke off of the Republican party and started the Whig Party which was apposed and against Andrew Jackson and his Democratic Party. Tyler didnt like that Jackson and his party would say one thing and then do the total opposite. They change their principles, They denownce a tarriff as wrong then they vote for it and sustain that same tarriff come voting time. When Martin van Buran won the presidency A depression happend called the panic of 1837, and he wasnt able to end it so the people turned to the newly founded Southern General William Henry Harrison whom Tyler and Clay supported. Harrison won the Election of 1840. He was 67 at the time of taking office, The oldest president to have ever held office. Clay was pretty much Harrisons Advisor and helped him make decisions while he was in office. But Clay was more like trying to be the president and make decisions through Harrison but Harrison wasnt going to abide by every decision that
