Persuasive Speech Outling I. Why study abroad? a. Academic Benefits ( UGA Office on International Education ) i. One obvious benefit is that you can get course credit and have fun at the same time. Why would you want to be stuck in a classroom day after day when you can get the same credit in a new, exciting and different environment? ii. Learn by experience and not just sitting and listening b. Professional benefit i. Networking opportunities 1. From personal experience, I gained a lot of networking opportunities studying abroad in Costa Rica. 2. Leaders of non-profits that reach internationally 3. Ties back to my career goals in Public Relations because I now have contacts in these organizations that I can easily go to if I was interested in doing Public Relations for a non-profit ii. An alumni survey conducted by IES Abroad program (formerly known as the Institute of European Studies) shows that: 1. 76%: acquired skill sets while studying abroad that influenced their career path 2. 62%: ignited an interest in a career direction pursued after the experience 3. 48%: worked internationally or participated in volunteer activities since studying abroad c.
