Lars was sitting by the river bank with his destined-to-die “girlfriend” trying to take advantage of every minute and moment of being with her. Then he planted a gentle kiss on her pretty face for the very first time. But when Lars’ brother and his wife came back from the mountain, they found that Lars was so depressed by the “imminent death” of his girlfriend that he was attempting to drown both himself and the girl in the river. Both were eventually saved. Watching this emotionally moving scene in “Lars and the real girl” made me wonder how Lars would react if everyone would stop lying and force him to accept the truth that Bianca was only an emotionless toy doll and that his care and love for her were all from his own imagination. Lying is not as bad as someone would think. Lying means hope, wild fantasy, big dreams, high expectations, bright future, a way to heal the mental pains, to cure the illness, to avoid hurtful feelings, to cheer someone up, to spur him on in time of difficulties and to give him the strength to move on. Trying to be honest and forthright is not always advisable and therefore could cause undesirable consequences. “Lars and the
