Derek Hull TER #9 “Teacher Tenure” 03/23/10 EDT 190 Section A TER #9 I think that tenure is a big issue that is mostly overlooked. I think that new teachers do not think about tenure or its effects when they enter the field. I also don’t think that the general public has any real idea about what tenure is about. I think that tenure is, overall, a good thing. It is a good incentive to get into teaching, especially with the economy the way it is now. If a teacher knows that after three years their job will be protected, then it would be worth it to get an education to become a teacher. Job security is a big issue for everyone and tenure gives an advantage to a struggling field. People do not think that teaching does not pay well enough and that fact sends potential teachers to other fields to make more money. I think that tenure helps to convince people to become teachers instead of something that makes more money. I think that tenure is good in that it protects teachers. It allows teachers to become more vocal about how things are run at school. If they do not like a policy they can say
