PRECISION and CLARITY 1. Use parallel constructions when giving an on the one hand/on the other statement: While both Plato’s Symposium and Euripides’ Medea have parts that seem relevant to today’s times, they are very opposite from each other in emotion. While Plato’s Symposium and Euripides’ Medea are similar in their relevance to today’s times, they are opposite from each other in emotion. 2. Be precise in your language : While Plato’s Symposium and Euripides’ Medea are similar in their relevance to today’s times, they are opposite from each other in their representations of emotion . Still unclear: “relevance to today’s times” doesn’t tell us anything; what about them is relevant? And what would it mean for emotions or representations of emotion to be opposite? While Plato’s Symposium and Euripides’ Medea represent emotions that are still familiar to us today, their characterizations of love are very different from one another. 3.
