(EOA) Value, Light, Texture Elements of Art Basic visual symbols in the language of Art. Visual building blocks put together to create a work of art. Value (Light) Texture (EOA) Value The Element of Art that describes the darkness or lightness of an object. The contrast between light and dark is what reveals an edge. Value depends on how much light a surface reflects. Dark Value: Reflects little light. Light Value: Reflects a lot of light. Black, White, Gray are neutral colors (which means when added to other colors, creates lighter and darker tints, tones, and shades.) Color + White = Tint Color + Black = Shade Color + Gray = Tone Gray Scale Crosshatching - technique of using crossed lines for shading (EOA) Light The Element of Art that affects the lightness or darkness of an object. Role of Lighting Direct the viewer’s attention Establish a mood and atmosphere Create a sense of depth Maintain visual continuity Reveal form through highlights and shadows

Basic Lighting Key Fill Backlight Kickers and Rims Eye Light Ambient Set Light Basic Lighting Key : The main or predominant light on a subject - may not necessarily be the brightest (backlight is usually hotter in intensity). Gives shape, form, and definition to the subject.
