HLTH 4523 Health & Aging Schedule of Table Discussions Spring 2011 Daily Schedule 1:00 – 1:40pm – Table Discussion 1:40 – 2:10pm – Group Leader Report to Class (3-5 minutes each) 2:10 – 2:15pm – Wrap-up/Announcements Instructions for Leading a Table Discussion Group leaders are responsible for leading a table discussion on their assigned date. The group leader should use the following steps for planning and completing the table discussion. Step One: Develop questions to use during the class discussion. o The group leader must include at least three questions from the assigned readings. o You may also include questions related to other class topics or topics of interest to the group leader. Step Two: Lead the table discussion. o You will have 40 minutes for the discussion. o The group leader will lead the table discussion by asking questions and initiating discussion by answering questions, if required. o It is the group leader’s responsibility to include all group members in the discussion and to balance participation between group members. This may require calling on certain members or asking a group member to limit their answers. o At the end of the discussion, the group leader will give a short (3-5 minute) summary of the discussion to the class. Step Three: Create a written record of the group discussion.
