Thomas Lennemann History 5012 German Military History Dr. Antonio S. Thompson Final Question 1:  Is there a German way of war?  If so, what is it?  If not, where does this notion  come from? Warfare can be described as a blank canvass; it takes a true artist to  create a masterpiece.  The German way of war is a concept, when applied  correctly, was a very true statement. While the ultimate result is cloudy, the  essence of the art of warfare utilized by Prussia (and later Germany) was  distinctly their own.   The German leadership was strained by a number of parameters that  required a certain method of fighting.  Of those parameters, the lack of resources  and manpower required a short and lively (kurts and vives) war.  A shock  and  awe   approach that staggered the enemy caused them to quickly lose their will to  fight.  Germany was located in the center of Europe, surrounded by potential
