Bio141 Photosynthesis Lab Materials: Variegated Coleus plants-enough for 1 leaf per student group Hot plates (3 or 4) Water baths – probably large beakers (1 per hot plate) Hot gloves (just in case) Methanol (Note: Methanol bath can become essentially "saturated" with chlorophyll. When this happens, chlorophyll will not diffuse from leaves. Refresh this solution frequently to avoid this difficulty.) 500-mL beakers (6) Watch glasses (6-to cover beakers of hot methanol) See if this works with cold methanol. If we need to heat both the water and the methanol we have waterbaths in the room that do not require hot plats. Tongs (1 per lab station – rinse and reuse through the week) Petri dishes (1 per lab station – rinse and reuse through the day) Iodine (1 dropper bottle per lab station) Methods: A.
