Steven Paul 06/13/2011 Chapter 1 What’s Up? 1. What are values? Your deepest feelings about yourself and life. 2. List the three aspects of values. What you think. How you feel. How you act, based on what you think and feel. 3. What are beliefs? Are the specific opinions you have about yourself and particular people, situations, things or ideas. 4. How do negative beliefs affect you? If you have negative beliefs about yourself then eventually you begin to believe them and it weighs you down. 5. How do other people’s beliefs affect you? If it is a positive belief then it will motivate you. And a negative belief will have the opposite effect. 6. How can positive self-talk be used to change your beliefs? It can make you feel more positive about yourself and help change negative beliefs and behaviors. 7. What are three characteristics of positive self-talk?
