Steven Paul 06/20/2011 Chapter 3-What’s Up? 1. The brain has allowed us the ability to deal with complex perceptions, thoughts, and feelings that are the key to our success as a species. 2. The three stages of memory are: sensory memory which is everything we perceive, short-term memory which is information we are currently using, and long-term memory which is information we do not need at the moment but have stored. 3. The two types of mnemonic systems are peg word method and method of loci. 4. In deductive reasoning, the conclusion that is reached is true if the information it is based on is true; and in inductive reasoning, the conclusion that is reached is not always true but the information it is based on maybe true. 5. The PrOACT approach to solving a problem is to break a problem down into five elements and think about each one separately and then put your thoughts back together and make a smart choice. 6. There are no perfect solutions to problems because each person solves problems in different ways. 7. Psychologist defines creativity as the ability to see things in a new way and to
