Walking up the staircases and bridges of Texas State campus in the  blistering heat, I can confidently say that I was in a pessimistic mood about  this assignment and was not looking forward to looking at and studying art.  Since I have focused on athletics much of my life, I have never really  appreciated much visual art, other than architecture.  I thought to myself,  what good will this do for me?  Being from the New York City metropolitan  area, I was quite skeptical that this art building in San Marcos really would  offer anything worth seeing.  As I entered the air-conditioned art building,  my mood began to change.   The first piece of art that really caught my attention was the painting  by Tommy Fitzpatrick, “Ticker Tape.”  I liked this painting because it  reminded of my home, New York.  I think the painting could represent  many different metropolitan cities for different people around the country,  but for me, and the majority of people who observe it, it probably  represents New York.  I believe this because of the stock information going  across the ticker, which makes me think of the New York Stock Exchange,  or the giant Billboards in the reflective windows, that remind me of Time  Square.  Also, New York is the place where returning heroes, be they
