Plato's "Theory of Forms" Abstract – Music as the perfect song or melody, the ideal music. This would be the truest form of music. Material – Music is terms of popular music today, such as rap or rock, classical, or any music in the past that has been played written, performed or recorded. This embodies all music that exists in the world but it is not the truest form of music. Images – this is the symbol for music or musical notes, which represent a song. These are merely reflections of the truth of music in Plato’s philosophy. Aristotle's "Four Causes Formal Cause – This is the blueprint for the song or the form or structure of the music, and the true essence of the music, which is the musical sound. Material Cause – This is the artist or various artists that sings, or play instruments in the song to create the musical sound, as well as the instruments used. Efficient Cause – This is the Musician who composes/writes/sings music. The Final/End Cause – This is the Musician intended affect of his music, such as the
