The performance I went to on December 4, 2006 was interesting, the group was a quartet consisting of alto saxophone, drum set, piano and bass. The group played a style of music that was a mix between cool music and bebop. The selections I heard varied in tempo some slow and smooth while others had a faster swinging beat. The saxophone was the main soloist and most of the pieces played were of him improvising although, the others would improvise but have shorter solos. The drummer was cool in that not only did he have some solos but varied up his playing by using sticks and brushes. The performance took place at Shanghai 1930 a restaurant with a casual feel. The performance was free however, that does not mean that the playing was substandard besides playing together well and being in tune to one another musically, all the musicians were quite proficient on their instruments.
