CHE 107- Forensic Chemistry I - Expert Testimony Exercise Please answer the questions below in the spaces provided and upload the document onto blackboard. It is important for anyone studying Forensic Science to understand the importance of expert witness testimony. Forensic Scientists often have to go to court to testify as expert witnesses, where they will explain the results of the analysis they performed on the evidence submitted to their laboratory. Obviously with this online course structure, we are unable to create a mock courtroom scenario. I want everyone to imagine being in the courtroom as you go through the following scenarios and answer the accompanying questions that are posed to you as an attorney or as the expert witness. 1. You are the prosecuting attorney and about to begin questioning a Forensic Scientist for your case. The first set of questions are referred to as the voir dire . Please explain what is meant or what is achieved by the voir dire ?
2. The first question should be “what is your name?” so the witness is formally introduced into the courtroom record. What else should be asked during the voir dire ? Please provide three questions that you would ask in this part of testimony.
