Lab V: Enzymes Informal Lab Report Biology 115 Lab Section 03 Sara Martinson Part One 1. The IKI test for starch solution before amylase-catalyzed hydrolysis was bluish/black, which was the same as the negative control of distilled water. After hydrolysis took place, the solution returned to the dark brown that it was before hydrolysis. Saliva containing amylase, a catalyst in the breakdown of starch molecules, was added to the starch solution and tested every 15 seconds until the solution returned to the same color as before. Our solution took 330 seconds to break down starch entirely. This can be tested using the IKI test because it tests for the presence of starch. 2. Our solution of starch took 330 seconds to completely hydrolyze. Compared to the other groups, all of the numbers had a lot of variability. There was a wide range of time it took the starch to be hydrolyzed in the presence of amylase. 3. Different saliva takes different amounts of time to hydrolyze starch because different amylase takes
