Activity Assignment #1 Sara Martinson For this activity assignment I started off by interviewing a musician, my cousin, Matthew Oltman. He currently is the director of Chanticleer, and a cappella choir. Matthew started to study music from the time he was 5 years old. He never really knew any different; he always wanted to be involved with the music field. Along with being a tenor singer, he also plays the piano. When Matt first started with the group Chanticleer he was a performer. They typically gave about 100 performances a year. Chanticleer still performs this much but he only attends about 75% of the performances. When he is not at the performances he is leading workshops and sometimes conducts special educational performances several times a month. Their next performance is in Portland, OR. It is a small festival involving a large community based youth choral program called the Pacific Youth Choruses and choirs of Portland University.
