Activity Assignment #3 Sara Martinson I watched Wolfgang Mozart’s The Magic Flute that he completed in 1791 in Vienna. This was Mozart’s final opera which he wrote in Singspiel form: including both signing and spoken dialogue. His opera was mostly influenced by the Enlightenment philosophy of his time. I watched the LA Opera version performed in January 2009. The main characters and performers included Marie Arnet who played Pamina, L’ubica Vargicova who played The Queen of the Night, Matthew Polenzani who played Tamino, Nathan Funn who played Papgeno and Funther Groissbock who played Sarastro. The opera had a light-hearted setting for the most part portrayed a comic, fairy-tail like situation. The characters always had on exquisite costumes with all kinds of makeup and large fluffy costumes. A certain times there was a bunch of animals also running around and it was then that it began to remind me a little bit of Alice in Wonderland. The overture at the beginning was long but it
