Introduction Speech Kelsey Leonard As Brain Tracy said, “If you raise your children to feel that they can accomplish any goal or task they decide upon, you will have succeeded as a parent and you will have given your children the greatest of all blessings.” It is with pleasure to welcome you all to the 1 st Annual Orange City Parents of Youth Conference. Today we have the privilege of hearing from a woman who has spent her life devoted to children. Growing up in Ida Grove, a place known solely for the magical castles that envelop the land, was an experience in itself that sparked a desire to serve children. It comes as no surprise that she developed a fascination for the kids with her mother working in a school and her dad a Park Ranger working with the people of Ida Grove. She attended Iowa State University as a Psychology major but recently began attending Northwestern College for a degree in Youth Ministry. After finishing at Northwestern she plans to attend Graduate

Unformatted text preview: School for a degree in Counseling Psychology. Working to find God’s calling for her life is one of the greatest interest she has at present. With all kinds of experience, it seems our speaker knows a thing or two about children. Last year she worked at the Presbyterian Camp in Okoboji in the craft barn hanging with the campers and doing crafts with them. She volunteers for Kid’s Connection; an after school hang-out youth ministry for Kindergarten-5 graders. One of her greatest interest is an internship she has working with the middle school youth group that allows her to spend time with middle school girls and mentor to them. Her speech today entitled, “Understanding a Child’s Mind”, will be full of useful information to help you understand the way a child functions so that you may better serve your children .
