Forms and Purposes of Compounding Compounding is the ability of changing or modifying prescriptions in order to satisfy the requirements of the patient according to a physician's written prescription. Its purpose is to deal with the patient’s prescription conformity and to deal with the result for the individuals who do not react well to predictable drug treatment. Prior to compounding medication, several factors have to be calculated when considering the compounding process. The complete research is required on the active ingredient to establish solubility, cost effectiveness, possible dosage forms, availability and stability. All pharmacies that compound medications must have right to use excellence reference resources. A number of these precious resources include these books and journals, which include Remington’s Pharmaceutical Sciences, Drug Facts and Comparisons, United States Pharmacopeia, and International Journal of Compounding Pharmacists.
