Characteristics of Workers' Comp Plans Workers’ compensation benefits are to help the employer and the employee. Workers’ compensation offers employees who are hurt at the job with payment for his or her damages; also, it keeps employers from legal responsibility for employees’ injuries. Around 1947, all employers in every state had to obtain workers’ compensation insurance. There are two workers’ compensation plans, which include federal and state. The Federal Compensation Plans consist of four different plans, which include the Federal Black Lung Program, the Federal Employees’ Compensation Program, the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program, and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (Valerius, Bayes, Newby, & Seggern, 2008). All the Federal plans are different but all supply a cash reimbursement for wages lost, medical, and career training. The Federal Black Lung Program pays compensation to disable coalmine employees
