V. Patman 6 How Resonance Effects Hybridization Examine the  π -bonds in important (contributing) structures. For an atom  to participate in  π -bond, it MUST have 2p orbitals.  Urea:  Thurs 2.03.11 Whenever atoms are involved in resonance structures that depict a p-bond  to that atom, the atom must be sp2 hybridized (or very rarely, sp)
