Police discretion is a very important decision or set of decision’s that is used by police officers on a daily basis, and used multiple times in an officer’s given shift. It dictates whether or not to pull someone over, or interrogate an individual. Discretion is the ability to make and choose what in the police officers mind, is the right choice. By properly using discretion it can save a police officer’s life when it is threatened. In the scenario in Appendix C, the officer uses discretion to determine whether or not her life was in danger, and used discretion to determine how far she should go to protect her life, and the lives of the people she is protecting. By making the choice to use deadly force on the suspect she ultimately saved her life. The discretion that the officer used was based on a set of steps that went into making the decision to use deadly force. In the training that this officer received, she
