companies
wanted
fire
protection. • During
the
first
part
of
the
1900’s,
workers
compensation
laws started
appearing
and
were
finally
deemed
constitutional
by the
Supreme
Court
in
1916. • Prior
to
this
most
of
the
blame
was
on
the
workers. • Common
laws
stated: • 1.
Employer
was
not
responsible
when
a
fellow
worker
caused your
injury
due
to
negligence. • 2.
Employer
was
not
responsible
if
the
worker
was
injured
due to
own
negligence. • 3.
If
the
job
was
risky,
the
employer
was
not
responsible. • Under
the
workers
compensation
laws
the
employers
assumed responsibilities
for
their
workplaces’
safety
and
